Well, let me tell you. After posting about my new attempt to control stash yesterday, the spoilers went up for Southern Cross Fibre Club, along with some coordinating semi-solids.
I put various amounts of the semi-solids into a cart at least 10 times.
And at least 10 times, I said to myself: You haven’t earned this yet. You can’t do it.
So, hooray for the system! It’s still working. Even in the face of Extreme Temptation.
Today, I was real happy about my (lately discovered) self-control. Why?
I had to put on my Big Girl Pants today and take my car in. I’ve had a slow leak on one of my tires, and let’s face it, 65,000 miles on a set of tires is pretty damn good.
So, Big Girl Pants hitched up, knitting in my bag for the wait, I headed to my favorite local car people. I needed an oil change too, and I told them to look at the tire. Got out my knitting and started working away.
(This is the knitting. Plain old ribbed-for-pleasure hat in handspun SCF Falkland – Diversity.)
Bit later, Rick comes out and says, you have a nail in your back tire, so we’ll patch that for free. Your two front tires need to be replaced.
I hitched up my Big Girl Pants (again, maybe I need new pants?) and said: Do it.
Few minutes after that, Rick comes out laughing and says, is this the original battery in your car here?
I said: Yes. 122,000 miles is pretty darned good for a battery isn’t it?
Rick: Um, yep. Pretty much unheard of.
Me: Go ahead then.
So, all told I spent a big hunk of money on my car. So it’s a good thing I didn’t fall down for all that wool.
Driving out of there, I had a smile on my face. I mean, it sucks to have to dump all that dough, but those guys take good care of me. You gotta love car people who don’t talk down to you or try to convince you to make unnecessary purchases. Just like with the best wooly people, these guys know that the key to their business is to make customers want to come back time and again.
Speaking of wool, check this out:
I pulled a craptonne of stuff out of the stash, and I’m gonna start tackling this pile as soon as I’m done with my SQ of Glacial on Targhee. Probably some time next week.
First up will be these three:
From top to bottom: Two If By Hand Wonka Club for July ’13 on Merino-Silk, Loompaland; Wine Tasting on Polwarth-Silk (I know, you saw it yesterday. Still pretty, though, isn’t it?); and Hello Yarn Wensleydale in Smells of the Sea.
Now I’m going to trade in my Big Girl Pants for some running shorts. Being a grownup…meh.
Have a great Wednesday, friends!
