Handspun: Did Someone Say Hot Pink?

Not usually my thing, but for some reason, this braid caught my eye way back when:

It’s just 4 ounces of a 75-25 BFL-silk blend from Midnight Purls. And no, I’m not usually a hot pink person. Maybe I was trying to get out of my comfort zone.

At any rate, once I got spinning, I just had to expand my comfort zone and make hot pink my thing, after all. I mean, who could resist such a bobbin?

All along, I was thinking, these colors would make some dead sexy socks. And so I was spinning toward sportweight n-ply. I used to try harder to get my handspun sock yarns more in the fingering-weight range, but after knitting up several pairs, I realized something. Handspun sportweight socks are just the ticket.

Anyways, I n-plied it, which cut up the crook of my lefthand pointer finger. Why does silk always do that to me? It does. But usually only when n-plying, and only when I’ve spun pretty fine.

300 yards of delightfully bright not-my-usual-colors handspun.

Happy Spinning, Friends!

  1. Gorgeous. I love it and think socks are an awesome idea for the colors, I am excited to see them knit up.

  2. That is SO pretty!! I love the colors! I have spun hot pink once and then dulled it down with some other colors. But this looks so pretty as a main accent. Just lovely and vibrant!

I get that cut in the crook of my finger too when I’m spinning for extended periods of time. If it wasn’t for that, I might spin all night into the mornings though. ;)
